5 Strategies to Increase Engagement in the First 5 Minutes of Class

Hi! My name is Laura Perrotta, and I've been a high school English teacher for the last 8 years. I began my career teaching in the private sector in New Hampshire, followed by a major move to New York City where I taught in the public charter network, Uncommon Schools. I currently teach 9th grade in Lawrence, Massachusetts.

In my school community I've served on our Teacher Leadership Team and loved having the opportunity to help shape the environment I work in every day. Last year I mentored a Teach for America teacher and found a new passion for supporting new teachers, especially as they begin their careers in urban settings. In the past I've facilitated professional development sessions about the values, benefits, and strategies of classroom structure and routines which is what inspired me to create this course for you!

I was nominated as Teacher of the Year during the 2017-2018 school year and was awarded The Rising Star Award. During the 2016-2017 school year I was nominated for the Fishman Prize. I'm humbled by these nominations--to me, I'm just a person who's passionate about teaching and supporting my colleagues and friends. I feel incredibly lucky to be in a place now where I can support you in your teaching journey, too!
